BKS Index Balanced benchmark portfolio performance was down 17.65% year-to-date through September, 2008 including commissions and management fees. BKS Fund / 401-k performance in the benchmark account was down 18.56% through September, 2008 also including fees, commissions, dividends and interest.

The Balanced Growth Mutual Fund Average return was down 16.49% year-to-date through September, 2008. The S&P 500 Composite was down 20.57%, and the NASDAQ Composite was down 21.13% (excluding a current annualized dividend yield of 2.37% on the S&P 500 Composite). The Dow Jones Industrial Index was down 18.20% (excluding a current annualized dividend yield of 2.9%). Corporate bonds were down 13.10% (excluding current yields of 8.0%), and Long-term Treasury bonds were up 1.51% (excluding current yields of 4.14%). We will provide assistance with the asset allocation process, and we will always pursue strategies providing the most attractive growth, income, and/ or appreciation potential adjusted for individual risk tolerance. All services are driven by these requirements, and will emphasize capital preservation when we cannot find attractive appreciation alternatives. The ultimate goal is the generation of risk adjusted returns that are better than market average returns over time.

Bruce Schmidt's Profile

Investment advisor, Bruce Schmidt, has been an investment analyst since 1982. He started his own investment and financial advisory firm in 2000. His most recent experience elsewhere was as a market maker/trader for three years at Security Investment Co. of Kansas City. Prior to that he was an investment analyst for seven years with American Century mutual funds' investment management group. He also spent three years at United Missouri Bank as an investment analyst, and five years as a utility financial analyst for the Missouri Public Service Commission.

He received an MBA with an emphasis in finance from the University of Missouri in 1982. He has been a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) since 1986, and is a member of the CFA Institute (CFA Website).
